How to password protect your files. - Rule-12

Welcome to Jerf's guide to password protect your files.

A few things that you should know before starting this tutorial.

What is WinRar?
It is a program that lets your quickly compress and depress your folders for easy upload. This is useful for hiding things or keeping your computer cleaner. You can either compress or extract files with the extension of .zip or more commonly .rar.

What do I need to do to get WinRar?
You can download the program within the steps in this tutorial.

What are the risks?
There are no risks, Unless you download files that you don't know what it contains and extract it without scanning the files.

1- Go to http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-b...-10007677.html and download WinRar. Install it and you will be set.

2- Once installed. Create a folder on your desktop and put files in there that you want to protect. You can do this by right clicking your desktop and going to new > New Folder.

3- Once you have the items you want to protect in your folder, You right click the folder and go to "Add to archive"

4- The following should come up:

-1 Name i whatever you want.
-2 Pick either .zip or .rar, I perfer .rar as it is faster.
-3 Click that tab when finished.

5-On the following tab, There should be a button called "Set Password". Click it.

This makes it so that without the password, You cannot view the files.

6- Push ok, It should start archiving. If there is alot in your folder, It will take longer. There should be a new icon on your desktop that looks like a stack of books.

7- You need to extract it in order to look at the files in the folder. Right click then go to the bottom choice of extract.

8- This should come up. Enter your password and push ok.

-You can send the files over the internet securely.
